Rick Conquers the United States... the World... One Living Room at a Time

I’ve done House Concerts all over the US ... from New York penthouses to Ohio basements. Really! They are really low maintenance. The most important thing that you would need to do is get your friends there. House concerts are a great way for me to share the music, meet new fans, play the more intimate tunes, tell the stories behind the songs and make a few extra bucks in the process.

Here's what we do...   it's easy !

You can either fill out the house concert request form by clicking here ... or send an email which includes your name, the city and state where you live, a phone number, and a good time to reach you. Someone will contact you to set a date and time for the show.

Once the date is set, you write a creative email to get the word out. The invitation should
include the following:

§  A paragraph describing the House Concert and who I am
§  A link to my website
§  A suggested donation of $10 or $15
§  The date, time and location of the House Concert
§   Perhaps an RSVP deadline and your telephone number (optional)

Some people who have hosted House Concerts before just collect a cover of $10 or $15 when the guests arrive.  Some people say, “Can I just pay you Rick.” Sure ... that can be arranged too. (There is a small minimum I require for traveling expenses that we can talk about if you’re interested in all this.)   What I usually wind up doing before the end of my set, I'll say: "There's a suggested donation of ten to fifteen bucks. This is what I do for a living so pitch in whatever you can."  Then I just pass the tip jar around.  It’s like a Tupperware party but with a musician and CDs instead.

We could make it like a potluck too and people can bring drinks and snacks, etc. (beer...wine...cheese).  Then we wait till there's a good enough crowd and begin the show. My friends in Arizona had some folding chairs, some people sat on couches. In Connecticut we just put some pillows on the floor. I play unplugged (or with a small amplifier) in the living room or backyard or where ever.

Keep in mind, a House Concert is not like playing a party.  It's not the background music. It's more like going to the theatre. There is a set performance time and the performance is the focus. (I can make an announcement before I begin to clear this up) I'll be singing and playing acoustically and/or with a small amplifier so it's not very loud. However, I have a pretty strong voice and I don't want to hold back. So my volume will be like listening to your stereo on like 3 or 4. Plus, if you live in an apartment building, lets tell the neighbors or invite them.

I'll play for about an hour and a half or however long people want me to, and then we can open it up into a party or sometimes people need to take off. Keep in mind that although weekends are the most commonly requested days for throwing House Concerts, weeknights are available too. Especially, if you just want to keep it small. Fifteen to twenty people in most living rooms feels pretty packed. It's all about the ratio!

Each House Concert is different and unique. We just need to come up with what works best for you. I'll work with you to make this as low maintenance as possible! Please email me if you or anyone you know would be interested!

As always, thank you for your support!
Blessings, Rick
